Amazing Facts

As we walked through the rainforest in Belize, several times we saw palm leaves that were broken and bent, all in the same way. Why were they all bent like this?

This is a "bat-tent". These tents, made by white-lined fruit bats or ghost bats, are made in the leaves of palms, heliconias, or banana, and serve as daytime shelter. You can find them throughout the rainforest - usually without bats! By changing the location of their roost every day, they are more likely to avoid being eaten by predators!
